Volcano Radar’s “Electro Parables/Electro Parábolas” (PYR164) reviewed by S. Victor Aaron

“The fascinating thing about them is that the alien, synth-like sounds produced are hand made from real instruments but obviously through the magic of MIDI and various other effects, the two are able to create these space age sonorities that are highly improvisational, but in a group improv sense. It might be hard to pick out what instruments are being played for a lot of the sounds heard on this album (and I won’t attempt to make any guesses here), but Miller and Barilari kind of made that unessential, anyway. They strive for a unique collective din, the means by which it’s achieved isn’t nearly as interesting as the end result.”  Read the full review here:

“Es una música que puede funcionar muy bien como fondo –porque no se impone en forma agresiva–, pero que también se presta a la contemplación concentrada de esos peculiares paisajes sonoros, para atender a la manera en cómo un timbre se metamorfosea en otro, seguir el río de asociaciones de ideas, el muy buen entendimiento entre los dos músicos, las subidas y bajadas –de altura y de volumen– que bien podrían ser las “parábolas” del título del disco (es decir, en sentido geométrico, más que narrativo), algunos sonidos ásperos y su contraste con burbujeos suaves, el surgimiento de una eventual tensión tonal dentro del mar atonal, atisbos de imitación instrumental de expresión hablada y balbuceos.”  Read the full review here:
